SUNDAY SCHOOL AT EMMANUEL

Proverbs 22: 6 - Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
The Sunday School at Emmanuel Lutheran aims to prepare the children for a lifetime of faith and devotion, by convicting them that they are
sinner s tainted through and through with sin, that Christ is their Savior who died for their sin, and that, apart from Him, there is no
salvation. We teach these truths using Bible Stories, Luther's Small Catechism, and substantive hymnody of the church.

Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays from the Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday before Memorial Day. Sunday School begins in the chapel where songs and hymns are practiced and learned by the Sunday School children. Their day continues in Memorial Hall with a brief Catechism review, and then concludes in the Church basement where the Bible lesson for the day is taught, including age-appropriate activities.
As an extension of the teaching activities of Emmanuel's Sunday School, a VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is offered to the children of our congregation and of the Adell community every summer. E-mail or call Pastor Seifferlein for further details on what is being offered this summer at VBS.

Sunday School Lessons for February
- On February 6 ...
- the children will learn the story of Elisha and Naaman. Through water and the word the Lord cleanses us from the leprosy of sin (2 Kings chapter 5).
- On February 12 ...
- the children will hear how the prophet Jonah was called to preach to the city of Nineveh. Through the Word of God we repent and are saved (Jonah chapters 1-4).
- On February 19 ...
- the children will study the story of the overthrow of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Those who believe and are baptized will be saved, but those who do not believe will be punished and condemned (2 Kings chapters 17-20; 2 Chronicles 29-32).
- On February 26 ...
- the children will hear about the Babylonian Captivity. Because of idolatry and perversion the Southern Kingdom is delivered over to her enemies, yet God spares a faithful remnant (2 Kings chapters 22-25; 2 Chronicles chapters 34-36, and Jeremiah chapters 34-39).
Read and discuss these stories at home with your children!

Upcoming Dates:
- Wednesday, February 22
- The children will be singing in church on Ash Wednesday, February 22 at 6:30 p.m. The service of Corporate Confession and Absolution and Holy Communion will begin with the children singing Track #16 and #17 on the Sunday School CD (see text below), along with the Kyrie (Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.), to be sung as the Antiphon for the Introit and for the Tract, and the hymn we sang on January 22, "From God the Father, Virgin-Born." (The tracks can also be found on the Sing the Faith catechism CD, Tracks #49 & #51). One of our Sunday School selections each year is from the texts of the Small Catechism of Martin Luther. This selection will not only benefit the congregation through their hearing of it, but will also benefit the children in their confirmation studies towards the memorization of the catechism. Please work on this music at home with your children. (Can't find your book or your CD? Download the music files and the book here.)
What is Confession?
Confession has two parts. First, that we confess our sins, and second, that we receive absolution, that is forgiveness, from the pastor as from God Himself, not doubting, but firmly believing, that by it our sins are forgiven before God in heaven.
Which are these?
Consider your place in life according to the Ten Commandments: Are you are a father, mother, son, daughter, husband, wife, or worker? Have you have been disobedient, unfaithful, or lazy? Have you hurt someone by your words or deeds? Have you have stolen, been negligent, or wasted anything, or done any harm?
- June 25-29 -- 5:30 pm - 8:15 pm
- Save these dates -- we will be holding our annual Vacation Bible School during that week. Tell your friends and neighbors who have children to plan for that week as well! (note the change in time from previous years!)
