The Lutheran Church has for centuries sung rich, meaningful hymns as part of their weekly Divine Service and their own personal meditation. These hymns have successfully taught the one true faith from generation to generation. They have also brought unity and strength to God's people in the Lutheran Church, because Lutherans have, with one voice, sung back to the Lord through Lutheran hymns what He has taught us in the Holy Scripture.
Regretfully, many Lutheran churches have drifted away from teaching Lutheran hymns and instead teach "fun songs," "campfire songs", or contemporary Christian music. Many of the songs that are taught in these situations do not have the "staying power" that Lutheran hymns have had for centuries, and most do not teach the faith as strongly or as accurately as Lutheran hymns do.
At Emmanuel Lutheran Church, we strive to give our students the best education possible in the one true faith. To this end, we have returned to our heritage, and each year teach our students faith-building hymns from our hymnal, Lutheran Service Book.
